Molly’s new memoir, forthcoming from Red Hen Press in September 2026
In 1992, When Molly was 22, she wrote her dad a letter asking him to apologize for nine instances of mental, verbal, and physical abuse. On the cusp of her college graduation, she spent her time drunk and high as she thrashed in a mosh pit or read Albert Camus…anything to avoid the troubled family she left behind in Arizona. But after a vivid nightmare involving her dad, Molly wrote the letter, giving her old man a chance to take responsibility for his actions. To her surprise, her dad wrote back.
Nine Grudges: The Spiteful Origins of the Happiest Dyke on Earth is the story of the nine childhood moments that almost broke Molly, her evolving relationship with those nine sources of resentment, and her quandaries about vulnerability, love, and trust. And while Nine Grudges is a queer story, it is not that tired faulty-cause-effect trope of queerness as catastrophe or half-hearted second-choice incited by trauma, but queerness as a fabulous experience for the author as a source of lightness and joy in a harsh world.
